The Story

The mural celebrates the annual football rivalry between Twentynine Palms High School and Yucca Valley High School, whose teams have competed for possession of the Kiwanis Bell since 1968. The 2021 brochure describes the bell as a trophy intended to encourage wholesome rivalry and good sportsmanship between the two schools. Art Mortimer designed the mural; three assistants and 17 students painted it as a Mural-in-a-Day project.
