The Story

This nature mural featured desert wildlife from the valley and neighboring Joshua Tree National Park.

After M14 was removed, Chuck Caplinger created two later wildlife murals on the same Smoketree Building. The 2021 brochure identifies the replacement works as Dipsosaurus dorsalis and Grococcyx californianus, depicting a lizard and a roadrunner. Because the brochure’s captions and index do not align perfectly on which title belongs to which wall, the Legacy Project preserves the titles without silently resolving that discrepancy.
